A high point of his long career was leading New Zealand to a historic victory over Australia in 1978. He played in New Zealand for several provincial and franchise teams, helping each to become national title contenders, and he also played successfully in the United States and England. He was offered a chance to play in the American NBA, but opted for a club in England instead. Hill later turned to coaching, including being assistant coach of the national team.
