Jeff Wilson

(1973 - )

Jeff Wilson
As a youngster at school in Invercargill, Jeff Wilson was a wonder of his age on the sporting field, whether rugby, cricket or, so it seemed, anything else he tried.

The news of his deeds travelled far and wide and The Golden One became Goldie.

All the promise he showed was fulfilled: when still a teenager, he had played for New Zealand at both rugby and cricket.

In an All Black career that encompassed 71 matches (including 60 tests), Jeff Wilson was regarded as among the best to have played the game.

When professionalism forced a choice between winter and summer, he opted for rugby.

But he played one-day cricket for New Zealand again when his rugby career was at an end.
