Phil Skoglund

(1937 - )

Phil Skoglund
One of New Zealand’s alltime greatest lawn bowlers, Skoglund might have been bred to bowl.

His great-grandfather laid the first green at Greymouth, his father Philip was also a top bowler and an uncle, Pete, won five New Zealand titles and an Empire Games medal.

Phil Skoglund made his mark at an early age, first playing in the national championships when he was 17 and winning the singles for the first time when he was 20, the youngest winner.

He won the national singles another four times and added four other national titles.

A placegetter at world championships and Commonwealth Games, Skoglund won a world title in the triples when the championships were in Auckland in 1988.
