Netball, 1967

Netball, 1967
Netball was still known as basketball when the New Zealand team set off for the second world championships, in Perth in 1967.

In an age when the sport received little publicity, the New Zealanders, coached by Taini Jamison and captained by Judy Blair, were barely noticed at home when they went through seven matches unbeaten, playing an innovative style.

Their closest match was against South Africa, won by two goals, and they beat defending champions Australia in the final 40-34.

Joan Harnett was named player of the tournament.
