Oliver Hollis

(1909 - 1993)

Oliver Hollis
Oliver Hollis was the outstanding New Zealand woman golfer in two distinct eras.

In 1924, when she was just 15, she reached the semifinals of the national match play championship and two years later she won the Melsop Cup, the national stroke play title, for the first of nine successive years.

She also won two national foursomes and three match play titles as well as winning the Australian match play and foursomes championships.

She married in 1937 and “retired”, but re-emerged in 1946 and immediately won her 10th stroke play title.

She continued to win more national foursomes titles and spearheaded the Auckland provincial team until 1959.
