Ces Blazey

(1909 - 1998)

Ces Blazey
When Ces Blazey was one of the original inductees in 1990, his citation read: “If one word only was allowed to describe him, that word would be `meticulous’.”

Blazey had more than 50 years in sports administration, mainly in rugby and athletics, and was regarded internationally as an authority on laws and procedures.

Even long after his retirement from active involvement, his opinions were still being sought. Blazey was on the New Zealand Universities Rugby Council 1936-69 (chairman 1945-67), the New Zealand Rugby Football Union 1957-86 (chairman 1977-86) and the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association 1954-81 (chairman 1966-81).

He served also on the International Rugby Board (1964-86), was a member of the New Zealand Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (1956-80) and a member of the organising committee for the 1974 Commonwealth Games in Christchurch.
